Note to self- Focus Focus Focus.
Adventurous ideas that pop into your head when you are snuggled safely in your warm, cosy bed at your mum's house don't necessarily hold up in practice.
I recently realised that the one thing standing between me and a successful career is not talent, not money, not support, and not education. The one thing that stands between me and success is focus.
I seem to be one of the many unfortunate people whose mind happily drifts to the indulgent realms and the distracting treats of social activities, virtual or physical.
Tools to Focus
I realised I needed a tool, a solution, a method to help me focus.
I had decided to head to Asia and set up my very own freelance empire. Writing, drawing, graphics—you name it, I will start doing it. Okay, so my plan was still a little loose. I wasn't sure which part of Asia to head to. Focus, focus, focus.

The tool I decided to use was inspired by a friend who set up a successful yoga business. The tool was debt.
I decided to go into debt. It sounds strange, and I know a normal person wouldn't "plan" to go into debt, but I'll explain.

Debt as a Tool
Debt is a tool that I would use to control my unfocused mind; I would use it to help me reign in those wandering thoughts - those desires to check social media or text a friend to arrange a coffee catch-up.
Being deep in debt would mean I'd be less tempted to run wild with the twenty-nothings on their backpack adventures or indulgently ponder for hours the complexities of living culture while sipping on a delicious iced Vietnamese coffee.
Being in debt would mean I would HAVE to learn to focus to pay it off.
I had successfully convinced myself I had to go into debt to succeed, or was I lying to myself so I could have an extended holiday?

My good friend Lindy inspired me when she started her Yoga business from scratch. When starting the business, she had gone into debt but told me the pressure had helped her focus. And focus, after all, is the number one trait that pops up again and again in successful people.
Now that I am deep in debt, I think it might have been good to have an alternative plan other than "GO INTO DEBT."
I'm deep in debt now... focus, focus, focus.
